The problem with finishing with the second overall pick in a draft that doesn’t have a clear-cut second best player is the fact that there is a ton of room for error. There have been numerous reports that have suggested that Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio will not be interested in not only NOT playing for the Grizzlies, but he wouldn’t want to play for the Thunder either. Do the Grizzlies even need a point guard? After all, they did select Mike Conley Jr. a few seasons ago and he hasn’t been completely terrible. There is a lot of room for Conley to still grow though and selecting Rubio would be a wasted pick, even if he is one of the better talents in the draft. He doesn’t fill a hole the Grizzlies need. Who does fill a void? Hasheem Thabeet. His ability to block and alter shots and be a dominant force in the middle (ala Dwight Howard) and that’s something the Grizzlies do not have right now and one would assume, they would love to get someone to do just that. Thabeet isn’t particularly an effective offensive player right now, but Memphis wouldn’t need offense out of him right now. If Memphis does feel they are in need of someone who can score and create their own offense, a guy like James Harden or Tyreke Evans would more than likely do the trick. Although, I don’t think they’ll pass up on Hasheem Thabeet. Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »
