PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The 76ers on Thursday acquired Sam Young from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for the rights to Ricky Sanchez.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Young, who plays guard and forward, was the 36th overall pick by Memphis in 2009 out of Pitt. He averaged 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 17.5 minutes per game with the Grizzlies.
The Sixers acquired Sanchez’s rights from Denver, along with Reggie Evans, in exchange for Steven Hunter and Bobby Jones on Sept. 10, 2007.
“We feel Sam’s overall skill set can be a valuable asset to our team,” Philadelphia president Rod Thorn said. “He adds to our depth at two positions.”

New Orleans Philadelphia, Memphis and New Orleans have agreed on a multi-player trade.
The 76ers are sending Marreese Speights to Memphis, the Grizzlies will move Xavier Henry to New Orleans and the Grizzlies and Hornets each will send a second-round draft pick to Philadelphia.
The 6-foot-6 Henry, in his second NBA season out of Kansas University, has averaged 4.3 points and 1.0 rebound in 38 games with Memphis.
“We are delighted to welcome Xavier to our team and the New Orleans community,” Hornets general manager Dell Demps said in a release Wednesday. “We hope Xavier will develop into a good basketball player that will contribute to the success of the New Orleans Hornets this season and into the future.”
Henry became the first player in Kansas history to leave for the NBA after his freshman season.
The 6-10 Speights is in his fourth NBA season out of Florida and has averaged 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace says re-signing center Marc Gasol is the franchise’s top priority right now as it attempts to maintain the momentum created during last season’s playoff run.
Wallace said Thursday that he has contacted Gasol’s agent Arn Tellem about securing the 7-foot center and keeping intact a nucleus that carried the Grizzlies to within one win from the Western Conference finals.
Gasol is a restricted free agent, and the Grizzlies would have a chance to match any offer Gasol receives. He averaged 11.7 points and seven rebounds per game last season and could command an annual salary of $10 million or more.
Wallace told reporters that signing Gasol is “priority number one.”
The lockout is not over, but training camps are expected to start Dec. 9.

HERNANDO, Miss. — DeSoto Civic Center staff members are still flying high after organizing a successful charity basketball game by Memphis Grizzlies star Rudy Gay in just six days. But the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that the election night game that brought about 5,500 people to the Southaven location is only part of the reason for the excitement. It said other events also raise hopes that the facility is raising its profile. It was built 11 years ago as a place for DeSoto County high schools to hold graduation ceremonies.Other events include the Nov. 21 return of Frankie Beverly and Maze and a Dec. 5 concert by Guns N’ Roses — part of the group’s first U.S. tour in more than five years.
