David Fizdale Memphis Grizzlies:
Fizdale was head coach for the Grizzlies from 2016-2017. Born on June 16, 1974, the American professional basketball coach was recently the head coach for the New York Knicks of the NBA.

Fizdale was born in Los Angeles where he attended Fremont High School. He played as a point guard for the school’s basketball team. Subsequently, he attended the University of San Diego, where he graduated with a B.A. in communications and a minor in sociology.

He began his coaching career in 1998 as an assistant coach for San Diego. In 2002, he joined Fresno
State as an assistant coach and worked for two years before joining the Golden State Warriors.

He was hired as assistant coach for Atlanta Hawks in 2004. He worked with the Hawks till 2008 when he joined Miami Heat as an assistant coach. During his tenure with the Heat, Fizdale coached “Team Shaq”, a squad selected by Shaquille O’Neal, at the 2013 Rising Stars Challenge during the NBA All-Star Weekend. His team was defeated 163-135 by Charles Barkley’s “Team Chuck”, coached by Mike Budenholzer, the then San Antonio Spurs’ assistant coach.  He also won the NBA with the Heat twice; 2012 and 2013.

Fizdale became an associate head coach after following the reshuffling of the Heat’s coaching staff, after Ron Rothsein decided to retire from his coaching career and Bob McAdoo was assigned to the scouting staff.

On May 29, 2016, Fizdale was hired as the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies. In his first seaspn, he led the Grizzlies to a 43-49 record, reaching the Western Conference playoffs. Fizdale was however fired on November 27, 2017 after a 7-12 start to the 2017-18 season, including eight consecutive losses and a publicized fourth quarter benching of center Marc Gasol.

On May 7, 2018, the New York Knicks named him as the head coach, in a four year deal with  the organization. His first season saw the New York Knicks finish 5th in the Atlantic Division with a 17-65 record. Following a 4-18 start to their 2019-20 season, Fizdale was fired by the New York Knicks.

David Fizdale is married to Natasha Sen, a marketer and CEO of the Creative Penny Company. David has a son from a previous marriage.
