Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach.
We’ve seen the head coaches Grizzlies have hired over the years and today the spotlight is on the current head coach, Taylor Jenkins.

Taylor Jenkins is an American professional basketball coach from Arlington, Texas. Born on September 12,1984, he attended the St. Mark’s School of Texas in Dallas. He studied at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Economics, while concentrating in Management and minoring inn Psychology.
He’s currently the league’s second-youngest head coach in the NBA. Taylor is the only head coach who didn’t play college basketball, as his organized playing career ended by the time he was an
undergraduate. While he was as Pennsylvania, he interned with the San Antonio Spurs basketball operation department during the 2007-08 season. Fromm there, he landed a job in the franchise’s front office. Then in 2008, he became an assistant coach for their D-League affiliate, the Austin Toros. In 2011-12 season, the Toros won the D-League Championship. In 2012, he was promoted to the head coach of the Austin Toros. As head coach, he led the Toros to a 27-23 (.540) record during the 2012-13 season and a first-round playoff victory over the Bakersfield Jam before falling to the Santa Cruz Warriors in the semifinals.

In 2013, he moved on to become an assistant coach with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks. He worked as an assistant coach with the Hawks for 5 years under head coach Mike Budenholzer. The Hawks reached the playoffs for 4 consecutive years including a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2015. Jenkins helped the Hawks develop four of the Hawks 2015 starting five into the NBA All-Star. He also served as an assistant coach for the NBA Eastern Conference All-Star Team and NBA World Team (Rising Stars) in 2015. In August 2016, he participated in the Americas Team Camp presented by Nike in Mexico City. The camp consisted of four days of basketball drills and competition conducted by NBA players and coaches. Jenkins later followed Budenholzer to be an assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2018-19 NBA season. The Bucks finished with a league best 60 wins, and clinched the #1 spot for the first time in 45 years. Jenkins actually came into spotlight when an ESPN clip showed Jenkins springing up to hold back players during a small, on-court scuffle. The video led to a profile of him in The Athletic, which gained his name notoriety.
On June 11, 2019, Memphis Grizzlies hired Jenkins as their new head coach. The hire was defined by the Memphis Commercial Appeal as “a defining moment for owner Robert Pera”. In February 2020, he was named the Western Conference’s Coach of the Month for January after leading the Grizzlies to a 11-4 record during the month; the youngest coach to win since 2003 and the first Grizzlies coach since 2014. It’s quite early into his tenure, but Jenkins has exceeded all expectations. Coming into the current season, the Grizzlies were expected to have a rebuilding year and according to ESPN’s NBA Preview, they were projected to be the fourth-worst team in the league. The “best-case-scenario” model projected 35 wins, but the team is currently on pace for 43 wins. Not only are the Grizzlies exceeding expectations, Jenkins is also getting recognized for his efforts. He’s thriving and also leading his team to wins.

Jenkins encourages his players to shoot and this has proven helpful as the Grizzlies are shooting 35.1 % from three-point range this year, up a whole percentage from a year ago. According to an article on The Ringer, Grayson Allen, first time new acquisition, found himself open on the three points line, Jenkins yelled to him to, “Let that motherf****er fly!”
With Jenkins, the Grizzlies may have found their coach of the future, with one of NBA’s most exciting young rosters. He’s gotten the most out of Morant, Brandon Clarke, and has cleverly weaved in the veteran presence of Jonas Vlanciunas. Evn though Jenkins maybe a rookie whose first season has had ups and downs, he’s determined, hardworking, and gradually making his way to become one of NBA’s top coaches. He’s known to have a sort of “father-to-son” relationship with most of his players.
Jenkins is married to Chantall Jenkins with four kids.
